Eye'll have that

I haven't been putting much of the stuff I've done for the Eye up on this blog lately. Because, er, I can't be bothered.

But never mind, look, here's a site which helpfully scans in and posts loads of my stories online, like this one and this one and this one and these ones and this one and this one.

Helpfully, they also provide you with some overlong, overwritten, hectoring and humourless versions of their own so you can experience what it would be like to have Flat Earth News recounted to you from memory at high volume by a not very bright student you were trapped next to on a long bus journey.

Subscriptions to Private Eye are available here.

Hi Adam.

Paul Staines (aka 'Guido Fawkes') has kindly sent me a link to your post about Private Eye scans on The Sun Lies. (His exact words were "He thinks you're a c**t, too!")

Putting aside Paul's usual Friday afternoon drunkenness and his adorably persistent belief that certain people not liking me somehow makes him right, not a cheat, not a thief, etc., I have this to say:

I have held the position for well over 5 years now that Private Eye should put more of their material online:
http://www.bloggerheads.com/x-archive.asp?viewblog=20040219&date=19/02/04

Also, the Sun Lies scans you link to fall under a 'media watch' remit and we always credit the source (unlike tossers like Staines, who once amusingly claimed not to read Private Eye after I caught him taking credit for one of your stories for the umpteenth time).

Scanning and crediting a story spotted in another magazine as part of a 'media watch' feature is not the same as ripping off other people's work and passing it off as your own.

We should probably link to the Eye website more often, but personally I fail to see the point while it clings to its brochure-ware past (updating with jokes, mainly, and no archive).

I won't issue a Draperesque invite/insult that you come and join our team, but if you can be bothered to put any of your Sun-related (or Mail-related) material online at any stage, please let me know and I'll happily make with the links.

As for your other comments, some of us actually do our own reporting from time to time; you may recall some original work done on the Glen Jenvey story that also appeared in your fine magazine.

;o)

1. There's lots of space on The Internets.

2. The devil's in the detail

3. But if you must have executive summary relief:

If you won't put important shit online, I will. Though I will give you a credit when I do so, unlike what you have done to me and Paul Staines has done to everybody.

Please don't feel you have to worry about that. I've managed to cope without a "credit" for the thousands of stories I've written for the country's best-selling current affairs magazine over the past eleven and a half years, so I'm not going to get my knickers in a twist about whether my name appears on a website or not.

I'll keep crediting anyway. Ego isn't the only reason publishers should point readers to the source of new or unique information.

I'd prefer to link to some items on your blog now and again, though - so please let me know if you mirror/feature one of your finer tabloid-related items:

Well, If my professional life relied entirely on patronage rather than, y'know, talent, then I wouldn't be keen to be "credited" too often either...

No offence, guv. No offence.
